CVE Monsters
Corrupting Vale Entities: living shadows engineered by Angra Mainyu and classified as Shadow, Solid, and Host Infestation threats.
CVE stands for Corrupting Vale Entity. These supernatural creatures, commonly called CVE monsters or simply CVEs, are engineered by Angra Mainyu. They first appear during the Black Forest crisis of 1865 and later spread into Asgard, where the Black Forest Commandos formalize a three-state threat classification.
Type I — Shadow
The basic form is living shadow: smoke-like, difficult or impossible to strike with conventional weapons, and most dangerous in darkness.
Light is the essential countermeasure. It does not merely illuminate the creature; sufficient exposure forces the CVE toward a physical state.
Type II — Solid
Once forced out of shadow, a CVE becomes a physical target. Solid CVEs remain aggressive and resilient, but firearms, swords, axes, and other conventional weapons can damage them.
This transition is why Gord schedules the main counterattack for dawn and orders the defenders to use every available light source.
Type III — Host Infestation
The most difficult state from a security perspective occurs when a CVE imitates, occupies, or hijacks a civilian body. Appearance alone cannot distinguish an invader from a victim.
The Asgard defenders combine several detection layers:
- the resident SBOM
- checkpoint verification
- cybernetic scanning
- field reconnaissance
- Amazonian life-force detection
Light as a Countermeasure
The Asgard Mission uses sunlight, Gord's Blue Blade, Thor's lightning, Freyja's divine energy, lanterns, artificial lights, and Azar's fire against CVEs.
Behavior and Identity
Not every encounter supports a simple “monster” label. The Black Forest Commandos must classify the threat and understand the entity before deciding what neutralization requires.
Name and Security Metaphor
Inside the story, CVE always means Corrupting Vale Entity. The name deliberately echoes software security, where CVE stands for Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures, the public identifiers used for known security flaws.
