The Second Sun

An unnamed Amazonian survives Asgard's final defense, where Azar's overwhelming light destroys the Shadows and scorches the city it saves.

Hold the line

The Second Sun retells the Code Black battle in Asgard Mission through an ordinary soldier in Artemisia's shield line. The Amazonians arrive with golden shields, but conventional weapons barely slow the CVE swarm falling over Asgard.

Gord orders the defenders to hold the line and use every light. Freyja's lightning briefly gives the Shadows solid form, allowing the Amazonians to strike. It is not enough: Gord loses her sword, the narrator's spear breaks, and Artemisia's commands vanish beneath the battle.

Then Azar rises above the walls—barefoot, dressed in white, with fire for hair—and becomes a second sun. Her light burns the Shadows, but it also consumes banners, armor, trees, and defenders. Artemisia orders a retreat. When Gord finds Azar alive in the ashes, her only question is whether it was too much.

Dawn of ash

There is no clean victory at sunrise. The survivors sit among ruined equipment and fallen comrades, forced to reconsider Gord's command. The song makes the battle's dilemma personal: overwhelming defensive power can save a city while destroying much of what it was meant to protect.
