The road to Carmilla
Grey Skies Rising follows Mina and Evie through an increasingly hostile countryside on their way to Carmilla's castle. The journey brings their differences into focus: Mina moves with an assassin's supernatural silence, while Evie depends on horsemanship, tracking, infiltration, and extremely fast gunplay.
When the forest begins to watch them, elvish warriors emerge with blades and arrows. Evie answers at range; Mina meets the attackers at close quarters. Freyja finally breaks the supernatural obstruction with thunder and light, opening the path ahead.
A field partnership
The song is less a destination story than a test of the pair on the road. Their backgrounds and methods could hardly be further apart, yet each covers the other's weaknesses. It follows the history revealed in The Council's Call and leads directly into Carmilla.
