Carmilla
Mina turns a confrontation in Carmilla's court into a lethal recruitment pitch, offering the vampire a place among the Hexbreakers.
A violent invitation
Carmilla reverses the expected relationship between vampire and victim. Mina enters Carmilla's court knowing exactly what awaits her, then dismantles the vampire's entourage while addressing its ruler with equal measures of threat, mockery, attraction, and invitation.
Mina is neither prey nor a conventional vampire hunter. Her immortality and unusual relationship with light make her difficult to consume or control—and she has not come merely to kill. As Carmilla's old court falls, Mina offers her a place among the Hexbreakers.
Mina's morality
The encounter is an extravagant recruitment operation conducted by an assassin who is comfortable using death and spectacle as persuasion. It expands the history first disclosed in The Council's Call, where Mina's long sleep is connected to Carmilla, and completes the journey begun in Grey Skies Rising.
