The song Black Forest Shadow is a heavy-metal companion to the novel, recasting its climax and temporal mythology. Beneath Sonnenwacht, YAML Voorhees stands with Angra as the Architect of the CVEs is released. Jack, still rooted in his life as a miner, is caught in the closing trap while a white-cloaked guardian confronts the Shadow forces.
A sacrificed timeline
Victory depends on the Okterakt and the branching realities around it. One version of events is surrendered so that another can survive; an alternate self continues the fight and pays the cost of changing what would otherwise occur. The Ostermann rifle ties that struggle directly to Rothütle and his family name.
The converging timelines leave Angra weakened but alive. The hunt that follows leads into The Council's Call, when Gord must answer for the escape and assemble a force capable of pursuing him.
