RuinTan
RuinTan, the bronze-bodied Persian champion who meets a CVE horde with a sword, shield, and alarming confidence.
RuinTan, Prince Esfandiyar, is an ancient Persian warrior whose modern name means “bronze-bodied.” His defining quality is extreme resilience: situations that look like encirclement to everyone else tend to look like an opportunity to him.
Salamis
RuinTan fought alongside Artemisia at the Battle of Salamis. Their familiarity in Asgard belongs to a shared past: they remember the same battle, Artemisia's escape at her allies' expense, and the tragedy that drove the Amazonians into Mithra's protection.
The Asgard Mission
Mina discovers RuinTan deep in the forest, surrounded by CVEs. She initially assumes he needs assistance. Within moments it becomes clear that he is entirely capable of controlling the fight himself.
Their introduction becomes a contest in dark humor. RuinTan calls her an ancient warrior; Mina informs him that “ancient” is not an acceptable way to address a woman. He then reveals that he already knows Mina's reputation and remembers the graveyard she once left behind.
When Artemisia arrives, RuinTan greets her as an old acquaintance. Gord later addresses him as prince when she greets him and Queen Artemisia. Mina's battlefield assessment is less ceremonial but more concise: no CVE gets past him.
Character
Fearless, sociable, teasing, and energized by immediate danger, RuinTan is classified as ESTP. His confidence would be reckless if his strength and durability did not so often justify it.
Abilities and Equipment
- Extreme durability: Survives punishment that would stop most frontline fighters.
- Strength: Controls groups of physical CVEs at close range.
- Massive sword: A weapon scaled to his strength and direct fighting style.
- Shield and golden armor: Let him absorb attacks while advancing into a hostile formation.
- Immutable defense: In the Black Forest Commandos' technical metaphor, his resistant body represents a hardened layer that cannot be casually modified or corrupted.
Key Relationships
- Mina: A competitive friendship formed through combat and mutual recognition.
- Artemisia: A fellow veteran of Salamis whose battlefield history he shares.
- Mithra: Part of the wider Persian network mobilized for Asgard.
