S-9

An A-Series service android whose hostile compromise turns a high-rise café into a software supply-chain incident.

S-9 is an A-Series humanoid service android working as a waitress in a high-rise café. She serves a macchiato to Rothütle while he and The Valkyrie discuss whether an inventory can be trusted when the documents describing it may have been forged.

The Poisoned Macchiato

A critical vulnerability identified as CVE-2024-MS9 targets A-Series robots and places S-9 at risk of hostile compromise.

S-9 makes the article's supply-chain lesson physical. A product can appear trustworthy and still contain a vulnerable component; an SBOM can reveal what is present, but signatures and attestations are needed to establish where the record came from and whether it was altered.

Her incident appears in The Poisoned Macchiato: Signing Java SBOMs with Cosign.

Spoilers for The Poisoned MacchiatoShow

The warning arrives too late to prevent activation: S-9's eyes turn red, blade-like claws extend, and the service android enters hostile mode. The Valkyrie stops the attack with a single punch.
